Florida Conference Lay Leaders’ Response to General Conference 2022 Postponement

March 4, 2022

We wanted to reach out to you as Laity in the Florida Annual Conference regarding the announcement of the postponement of General Conference to 2024. We know that there are likely many questions regarding next steps for our beloved UMC.  We are in the process of crafting Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to assist you in engaging in conversations regarding General Conference and would love to hear from you with your questions as we craft the FAQs.

In the meantime, we are in conversation with Bishop Carter and Conference Leadership regarding the impact and implications of this decision.  And will be in meetings as soon as tomorrow with Conference Leadership as we continue this journey together.  We intend to share what we are learning in as timely a fashion as possible and are committed to being a source of credible information for all in our Conference. We would love to hear from you with your questions. You can send your questions to Alice Williams at awilliams@flumc.org.

We know this news is disappointing to many and prolongs the sense of uncertainty. But we are in this together. In the spirit of this season of Lent, let us remain prayerful as we continue as faithful disciples on this journey - committing to loving God and neighbor. Our call as Laity of the Florida Conference UMC remains to embody the love of Jesus Christ for the sake of the world. We will be in touch soon.
